Cheryl takes a story-oriented approach to counseling and empowers her clients to become intentional cowriters of their lives. She sees the core attributes in her clients, the shaping impact of their history, and common patterns that emerge over a lifetime. With keen insight, a warm presence, and supportive affirmation, Cheryl illuminates opportunities for clients to embrace their unique and glorious attributes. She helps clients to renounce defeating and destructive patterns, while calibrating a strong and kind compass. She guides clients toward confidently accepting the freedom to live out their best ideals and to find strength in humility and forgiveness when best efforts fail.

Cheryl wholeheartedly believes that individuals can improve the private life of their internal world and the quality of interactions in their relational worlds. Couples benefit from sound guidance through complexities and tangles that naturally occur with efforts to create a harmonious union. As an option, for those who seek spiritual development according to a Christian world view, Cheryl integrates sound theology with the therapeutic process.

Philosophy: Cheryl believes that with the exception of biochemical imbalances or physiological impairments, our mental, emotional, and relational problems stem from belief systems – meanings applied to experiences and the strategies employed to preserve a sense of wellbeing. Cheryl sees counseling as a normal part of healthy living whenever improvements are desired. A good analogy for how Cheryl sees her role is that of a wilderness guide. She believes her job is to remain attuned to the unique strengths and tolerances of clients and, with the challenges of the landscape in mind, identify the best route to change. With over 20 years of experience she has become expertly familiar with the terrain, it’s risks, challenges, beauty and rewards. Cheryl considers her responsibility as a guide to be among the highest of honors and privileges.
